2016 and the Pathway to More Success

2016 and the Pathway to More Success

I often spend time contemplating what I'll write before I ever pick up a pen or turn on my laptop. As I was weaving words and phrases in my head, trying to find just what I wanted to say about 2015 and the new year ahead, a friend of mine posted this New York Times article about none other than DJ Khaled's Snapchat.  Having just been introduced to DJ Khaled's social media brand of unshakeable positivity and outright materialism by my brother a week before, this was, quite possibly, the funniest thing I've read all year.

What the article reminded me of was 2016 will be the year in which i define the keys to my own success. You who have known me long have known many iterations of France- sister, daughter, fellow, student, professional, blogger, and rabble rouser. Within all those iterations, I followed the traditional path to success- get the degrees, the "dream" job, the condo. Yet true happiness and a sense of meaning eluded me.

As amusing as DJ Khaled is, his appeal is in the fact that each day, he wakes up unconstrained by society and willing to define his success in the most unconventional way. Thus, in 2016, i've decided to live by one of my favorite sayings: "f--k it". This will be the year that I am unconstrained by the expectations of others and venture out on the pursuit of happiness. I'm taking a journal, my laptop, and 2 suitcases to a remote archipelago off the Afro-Caribbean coast of Panama without concern for money, politics, or even time. I have no real plan or timeline, only to stay for as long as I feel welcomed, and return if returning adds to my sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Follow me on the pathway to my own success.
